What We Do
Dewar Brothers is a foam convertor. This means we buy foam in sheets or blocks and machine into a customer-specific product.
We utilise SolidWorks 3D, the latest CAD software available, and manufacture our designs with AXYZ-4008 CNC routing machines, straight-cut band knives, stamp die cutters and other specific pieces of equipment.
Why we use Foam
Foam is a versatile material and can be used for a range of packaging applications due to its differing grades, densities and properties. We generally recommend foam for protective internals, which act to protect our customers’ goods from mishandling and the impacts inherent in international shipping.
There are several types of foam we use on a regular basis. What foam we use and how we use it is determined by specific customer requirements. For example, a client who wants to ship electronic goods on a long haul flight requires an anti-static foam. This avoids damage caused by electric charges built up by the movement within in the packaging.
CNC Router Technology
Dewar Brothers recently invested in a new CNC router, this machine uses state-of-the-art technology and will enable significantly better productivity in its programming and operation. The router is capable of machining a large variety of materials used in specialised fitted cases.
Polyurethane/PU is available in various colours. It is generally firmer and heavier than PE. We would normally use this type of foam for the protection and presentation of heavier products or high value items. Variations of Polyurethane have anti-static and fire-retardant properties.
Polyethylene/PE comes in various densities and in three colours: white, black and pink. Polyethylene foam can come with anti-static properties. This relatively soft foam is good for low-cost impact-protection for lighter products.
